The objective of this project was to identify relations between cell phone usage patterns and demographic measures in Amsterdam.
Numerous statistical measures were taken into account:
- population age
- employer locations
- income distribution
- unemployment rates
- population density
- foreigner count
The analysis used this information in combination with cellular network data (incoming calls, outgoing calls, SMS, data).
This confidential database content was provided by one of the leading network providers in the Netherlands and all data was aggregated by census districts, which then allowed the direct correlation analysis with the demographic data.
The resulting usage patterns could then be used to classify Amsterdam in characteristic clusters with distinct cellular and demographic compositions.
